IHI Business Management Game

Here at The Firm, we love the IHI National Hospitality Business Management Game. Now in its 33rd year, it has been running even longer than ourselves, and we like to think that both the Game and The Firm have made positive contributions to the progression of professional management within the Irish hospitality industry.

This year’s Business Management Game will take place at the Clayton Hotel, Dublin Airport on Sunday and Monday, 3rd and 4th of March.  It is an inter-college competition for 3rd and 4th year students studying Hospitality Management, and over the course of the two days, the students will be given a total of three challenges designed to test their business and financial acumen as well as their team-building skills.

Having attended previous Games, we know just how high the bar is set in these challenges, guaranteeing that only the very best teams win the coveted trophy. It has been a great pleasure for us to experience the commitment and knowledge of competitors in the Game, and then, a short few years afterwards, to help many of them carve out successful careers in our industry.

We are also delighted that the IHI has re-introduced this year a seminar for supporting students. The theme is ‘Hospitality – A World of Opportunity’, and the distinguished speakers include JP Kavanagh, General Manager of The Shelbourne Hotel; Sandra Sutton, Area Manager, Ireland and Wales for Expedia Group; Ian Madden, Food and Beverage Manager of Clayton Hotel, Cork; Daniel Mc Loughlin, owner Rock Salt Café and John Poole, Business Development Manager of San Pellegrino and Aqua Panna.

Each of these speakers has an in-depth knowledge of the diverse nature of the hospitality industry and the many exciting career opportunities which it offers. This is also The Firm’s passion and area of expertise. We are dedicated to inspiring young people to choose hospitality as a career and to make the right decisions in relation to how their careers develop.
